Abstract

This article presents the eschatology of the German theologian Gerhard Ebeling (1912–2001). Concentration falls on his views on death and life after death. Only a selection of his writings has been used for this article (originally a paper at a symposium on the life and work of Ebeling). Ebeling was one of the great Luther-researchers of the 20th century. The article is therefore also about Luther’s views on death and life after death. Ebeling’s eschatology cannot be separated from Luther’s eschatology; hence, many notes on Luther’s works have been taken up in the article.
